Who says Waitrose wine has to be expensive? This week’s Top Tips include a fruity Spanish blend to challenge that shopping myth. And for extra savings across their wine and champagne range, scroll down for details a 25% off promotion ending tomorrow. I also bring you news of offers at the other major supermarkets and a great buy from Tesco for around £5.
Spanish Dry White Aromatic and Citrus (£4.99 at Waitrose)
Belying the notion that Waitrose wines must be expensive, their excellent team of buyers has created a range of simple but great value wines retailing just under £5.
Capitalising on Spain’s vastly improved white wine quality, this particular example is a skilfully assembled blend delivering gentle, red apple, peach and tangerine flavours with pink grapefruit acidic bite although its depth and texture is light rather than substantial.
2019 Dino Trebbiano Pinot Grigio (£4.50 – instead of £5.50 for Clubcard holders until 12 July – at Tesco)
Current Tesco promotions focus almost exclusively on Clubcard holders but this tasty Italian white blend is recommended even at its listed price.
Rounded and soft, it provides bright, green apple and lime flavours enlivened by orange centred acidity and hints of savouriness captured within an attractive lemon curd texture.
