This week’s top tips and current promotions

Return to the home of Malbec with this week's top picks. Plus one to open in honour of International Sauvignon Blanc Day.

My star bottles this week include an excellent red from the home of Malbec and a zesty New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I have also included my picks from the latest promotion at Morrisons plus details of offers at Majestic.

2018 Tesco Finest Cahors Malbec (£7.50 at Tesco, and 13%):

This red continues to drink really well and reminds us that despite its colossal success in Argentina, Malbec’s origins (and this version’s home) lie in South West France.

This example contains inviting herbal and baking spice texture, good acidity, soft tannin and plum fruit.

Find it here on Tesco’s website.

2019 Yealands Sauvignon Blanc (£7 – instead of £8 until 5 May – at Sainsbury’s, and 12.5%):

Since Friday is International Sauvignon Blanc Day, it’s appropriate that this excellent example of the grape is currently on promotion.

It underlines how good the 2019 vintage was with a soft grapefruit and white peach backbone, zesty tangerine acidity and lemongrass, eucalyptus and green pepper complexity.

Find it here on Sainsbury’s site.
