A floral and fruity “blush” Rosé and a smooth, sound Italian red make up my Top Tips this week. More juicy reds – and a fresh Chilean white – also feature in my round up of supermarket offers and discounts below.
2020 Taste the Difference Coolwater Bay Sauvignon Blush (£7 – instead of £8 until 15 June at Sainsbury’s)
Here, New Zealand adds a dash of Syrah to its classic Sauvignon Blanc to create a delicate but delightfully tasty, pale “blush” Rosé.
Rounded yet attractively floral, it has ripe red apple, white peach and watermelon flavours supported by lively grapefruit acidity all wrapped in a gentle, mouth-watering texture. Note, the discount ends tomorrow.
2020 Nero D’Avola (£5.50 at Tesco)
Rather like Primitivo in Puglia, Sicily’s Nero D’Avola grape consistently provides straightforward, sound and enjoyable but inexpensive red wine.
Smooth and medium bodied, this example delivers minty plum and red cherry flavours accompanied by firm tannin, good acidity, appealing sweet edges and touches of aniseed and savoury herbs.
Current promotions
At Sainsbury’s
The current promotion at Sainsbury’s finishes tomorrow. This nicely crafted South African red, and winner of the People’s Choice Budget Buys category, is worth a try particularly at the discounted price:
- Sheep Hill Shiraz Malbec (Down to £6 until 15 June)
At Co-op
A new promotion launched last week at the Co-op. My sources tell me this Chilean Sauvignon Blanc is included in the discounts but check your local Co-op store as offers can vary:
- Co-op Irresistible Leyda Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Drops to £7 until 29 June)
At Marks and Spencer
A new set of offers also kicked off at M&S last week. They are expected to run until 12 July. This popular red is among the discounts:
- Burra Brook Cabernet Sauvignon (Down to £6 until 12 July)
At other retailers
Promotions continue this week at Waitrose and Morrisons. See last week’s post for my picks from both.
Our Discounter Discoveries feature is back on Thursday when we pick out the best (new and existing) buys at Aldi.
