Spring supermarket wine promotions continue at pace with new offers landing at Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s. See below for what to buy and when to act. You will also find my two top tips for this week – an Extra Special Douro and a rich, juicy Australian Pinot Grigio.
2019 Extra Special Douro (Currently £6 – instead of £6.50 at Asda)
Using skills the region has acquired from centuries making Port, Northern Portugal’s Douro Valley brings us this delightful red table wine that’s brim full of flavour.
Medium bodied and savoury edged, it delivers ripe plum, raspberry and cherry flavours with firm acidity, gentle tannin and cinnamon centred depth.
2020 Dog on the Tuckerbox Pinot Grigio (£5 – instead of £7 until 10 May at M&S)
Building on the grape’s European successes, Australian wineries have upped their Pinot Grigio production although their versions are often richer.
Textured but floral, this great value illustration of that richness centres on juicy orchard fruit and melon flavours with evolving lemon acidity, green herb influences and touches of ginger.
