Here’s a quick update on what’s happening with supermarket wine promotions this week.
Asda
The ‘Two for £9’ offer continues this week on selected wines (while stocks last), with more than 20 (largely branded) wines included in the promotion. Call instore or click on the ‘View all’ link on Asda’s website to see if any you enjoy are among them.
Note, prices may vary in Scottish stores as multi-buys are prohibited under Scottish law.
Tesco
Promotions at Tesco also continue this week with two notable whites on offer until Friday.
- Tesco Finest Albarinio (Down from £8.50 to £7)
Fresh with good substance and acidity. It has greengage and pear fruit with a saline edge. - Tesco Finest Pinot Grigio (Down from £7 to £6)
With firm acidity and impressive depth, the upfront apple, grapefruit and lime fruit is softened by a hint of spice.
Sainsbury’s
A new promotion starts on Wednesday and is expected to run until 3 March. Next Monday’s post will look in more detail at the wines included and highlight those, I think, are of particular interest.
Lidl
This week, Lidl’s Wine of the Week is the excellent value Prosecco Spumante Conegliano Valdobbiadene Extra Dry (£4.99 instead of £6.99 from 13-19 February)
Find it here on Lidl’s website
The magic words “Con” and “Val” are well worth seeking out for prosecco as they indicate one of the main (hillier) areas where the wines are almost always that little bit better. To find out more about this, take a look at the slightly outdated but still very relevant post by Tim Atkin.
Fresh and rounded, this is a great party wine. Its red apple fruit and sherbet acidity is balanced with a discreet edge of sweetness and hints of mellow pear.
I’ll be back on Wednesday with vintage secrets in respect of the Rhone.
