My Latest Top Tips for Value and Tastiness

A very warm welcome to the latest Top Tips post that highlights wines I consider punch well above their weight for their current price.

While I enjoy top level wine as much as the next person, my specialism (as most of you know) is what marketing people call “entry point” fare.

In essence, that means teasing out wines that are typical, tasty yet within most people’s budgets – and telling you about them here.

Monday’s posts (like this one) highlight wines I recommend – a laser beam if you like.

Thursday posts by contrast are not a collection of recommended wines but, rather, more of a searchlight showing subscribers what discounted wines are currently available.

They can then make up their own minds which of them to buy.

Getting back to today, however, use the hyperlinks provided to see the retailer's web post about each of these Top Tips

2020 Trivento Reserve Malbec (£6 – instead of £8 until 8 February – at Sainsbury’s):

As regular MidWeekers will know, Trivento is the Argentinian arm of Chile’s Concha Y Toro operation but possibly less well known is that this is the “entry point” step of the producer's Reserve, Private Reserve and Golden Reserve malbec hierarchy.

Dark and textured, it is well above entry point quality, delivering nutty cherry, loganberry and plum flavours coupled with sage, cinnamon and milk chocolate influences, lively acidity and proportionate tannin.

Note that this deal ends tomorrow.

2020 Warwick First Lady Chardonnay (£6 – instead of £8 until 14 February – for Tesco Clubcard holders):

Named after Warwick Estate’s trailblazing winemaker from the 1970’s onwards, Norma Ratcliffe, this is great (traditional) chardonnay enriched on its lees and with 8% of the wine fermented in oak.

Smooth and nicely textured, it features minty pear, melon and orange flavours supplemented by grapefruit acidity and a backdrop that delightfully integrates butter, vanilla, nutty and mineral elements.

Do call in again on Thursday when I take a spin around the current promotions in major retailers to help you decide what to buy this weekend before.

Hi Brian
There don’t seem to be any hyperlinks in the text. Please will you provide me links to the wines.
Thank you

Judith Bailey

Sorry about the typo. Please will you provide the links.

Hi Judith …. Sorry that there seem to be problems. The links (from the name at the top of the respective item) work OK for me at the moment. If there is still a problem, try googling the supplier and the name of the wine. Remember though that the Trivento reverted to its full price today as indicated. If that price change is an issue, the wine is still at £6 at Tesco (for Clubcard holders) for another week … Brian
