Here are details of a couple of good value – but a little different – wines, currently on offer at around £6.

2018 Inycon Nero d’Avola Shiraz (£5.99 – instead of £7.99 until 10 March – at Waitrose and 13%):
Inycon is a brand used by the Settesoli operation, traditionally a Sicilian farmers’ co-operative but these days especially adroit at combining indigenous and international grape varieties.
This example brings together the local Nero D’Avola and Shiraz. It has attractive medium bodied loganberry, cherry and red plum fruit with lively acidity and background flavours of menthol, cinnamon and liquorice.

2018 Taste the Difference Pecorino (£6 – instead of £7 until 3 March – at Sainsbury’s and 12%):
Not to be confused with the cheese, Pecorino is a grape that has long prospered in central Italy but in the past has been overshadowed by Verdicchio.
This excellent version has ripe apple and tropical fruit flavours with acidic freshness, spicy depth and just a hint of sweetness.

I’ve bought the Pecorino many times, it’s delicious and very good value. Sauvignon blanc lovers think it’s great, a little fuller and tastier, something different that they seem to like.
Good point Stephen. Pecorino could well be an alternative for sauvignon drinkers looking for a little more texture without spending much more money.
